Other Legal Resources
Other Legal Resources in BC
Not everyone has the financial means to retain the services of a legal professional. And not everyone has a legal problem that needs their help either.
Whatever your case, here are some other legal resources for you to consider:
1. Unbundled Legal Services
Some lawyers and articling students offer unbundled legal services—meaning you can hire them for specific tasks (e.g. drafting a demand letter or preparing for a court appearance) without retaining them for your entire case. This can be a very cost-effective way to pay for legal services. Unbundled services are most commonly available for family law and estates law matters. If you’re interested in retaining a lawyer or paralegal for an unbundled service, please ask our LRS Coordinators for more information.
2. Access Pro Bono
If your total household income was under $80,000 for the past year, you likely qualify for free legal services from one or more of Access Pro Bono’s province-wide programs
3. Everyone Legal Clinic
Access Pro Bono’s Everyone Legal Clinic provides low-cost, fixed-fee, unbundled legal services for common legal issues. Services are offered by articling student clinicians under the supervision of experienced lawyers. Availability may vary depending on the students’ training schedules and capacity.
4. Legal Aid BC
If your legal issue is related to children/MCFD matters, or family, criminal, or refugee and immigration law, you may quality for government-funded legal aid from Legal Aid BC.
5. PovNet (Find an Advocate)
PovNet connects low-income individuals with free legal services and advocates across British Columbia. You can search by location or area of law to find the legal help you need.
6. People’s Law School
People’s Law School provides comprehensive legal information, and has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to resolve everyday legal matters on your own. You may find their new Generative AI chatbot Beagle+ particularly helpful when researching your legal issues.
7. Amici Curiae (Friends of Court)
Amici Curiae is a volunteer-run organization that helps clients understand legal procedures and complete their legal paperwork.
